Bookings & Cancellations
How do I book an appointment?
You can book by calling our clinic directly during business hours Monday to Friday – 8:30am to 6:00pm & Saturday – 9:00 to 1:00pm, or by submitting a booking request through our online contact form. Our reception staff will confirm your appointment, check preparation requirements for your scan, and answer any questions before your visit.
For most services, please have your referral on hand when you call so we can confirm the correct study and any bulk billing eligibility.
How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Please call our clinic as soon as you know you need to cancel or reschedule. We ask for at least 24 hours notice where possible and this allows us to offer the time slot to another patient who may be waiting.
Can I walk in without an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome for Digital X-Ray and OPG (dental X-ray), subject to availability. We will always do our best to see you promptly, though a short wait may occur during busy periods.
All other services require a pre booked appointment. Please call our clinic to arrange a time.
Billing & Referrals
Do I need a referral?
Yes, a valid referral from a GP, specialist, or other eligible health practitioner is required for the vast majority of our services. Your referral specifies the imaging study your doctor has requested and is required to bulk bill through Medicare.
You can bring your referral on the day or ask your doctor to fax it directly to your preferred clinic before your appointment.
Are services bulk billed? Will I have to pay anything?
The majority of our services are bulk billed for eligible Medicare card holders with a valid referral, including Digital X-Ray and OPG. Ultrasound and CT are mostly bulk billed depending on the specific study. Some specialised studies or services may have an out-of-pocket cost.
Our staff will always advise you of any fees at the time of booking and not on the day of your scan. Please bring your Medicare card and referral to every appointment. If you have any concerns about costs, call us before attending and we will clarify everything upfront.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?
For all appointments, please bring:
- Your referral from your GP or specialist (or ask your doctor to fax it ahead)
- Your Medicare card (and any concession card if applicable)
- Any previous imaging relevant to your scan and prior X-rays, CTs, ultrasounds, or reports help the radiologist compare findings and can significantly improve the value of your study
- For MRI: any device card for implanted medical devices (pacemakers, cochlear implants, etc.)
Preparation
Do I need to prepare before my scan?
Preparation depends on the type of scan. Many services require no preparation at all. When you book, our staff will give you specific instructions for your study. As a general guide:
No preparation needed: Digital X-Ray and OPG scans, most non contrast CT scans, chest and bone X-rays.
Preparation required: Some ultrasound scans require a full bladder (pelvic, obstetric) or fasting (upper abdominal). Abdominal CT may require fasting for 4-6 hours. Interventional procedures have specific medication and fasting instructions. CT Calcium scores have preparation requirements.
If you are unsure, call us before your appointment as arriving unprepared may mean we need to reschedule your scan.
Can I eat and drink before my appointment?
For most scans including X-ray, OPG, DEXA, mammography, and most ultrasounds, you can eat, drink, and take all medications as normal. No fasting is required.
Fasting is required for some studies: abdominal ultrasound (typically 4-6 hours, water is fine), abdominal CT with contrast, and some abdominal MRI sequences. Our staff will tell you clearly when you book if fasting applies to your study. Continue all regular medications unless specifically told otherwise by our staff or your referring doctor.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you are welcome to bring a support person to your appointment. They can accompany you in the waiting area and, depending on the procedure, may sometimes be able to stay in the room with you (for example, a parent accompanying a child for an X-ray). Please let our staff know at reception if you would like your support person to be present during the scan itself.
For MRI and CT, support people in the scan room must also complete a safety screening questionnaire. Pregnant companions are generally asked to wait outside the scan room during X-ray-based procedures.
Results & Reports
When will my results be ready?
Our specialist radiologists report all studies and send a written report to your referring doctor within 24 hours of your scan. Studies completed in the morning are often reported and sent same day. Urgent referrals are prioritised and your doctor will be contacted by phone if a significant finding is identified.
Please follow up with your GP or specialist to discuss your results. We do not provide reports or results directly to patients, as your referring clinician is best placed to explain findings in the context of your full medical history.
Can I get a copy of my images or report?
Yes. You are entitled to a copy of your imaging and your report. To request copies of your images (on CD or digitally) or your report, please contact the clinic where your scan was performed. Identification will be required. There may be a small administrative fee for image copies depending on the format and volume requested.
Reports are routinely sent to your referring doctor. If you would also like a personal copy of your report, please let our reception staff know at the time of your appointment or call us afterwards.
My doctor hasn't received my report. What should I do?
Reports are sent electronically to the referring doctor nominated on your referral. If your doctor hasn't received your report within 24-48 hours of your scan, please call the clinic where your scan was performed and we will investigate. Ensure your doctor's correct fax number or provider number was noted on your referral.
In urgent situations such as a significant finding that requires prompt follow up our radiologist will call your doctor directly rather than relying solely on the written report.
General Questions
I'm pregnant - is it safe to have imaging?
Always tell us if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant before your scan. This is important for any imaging, but especially for X-ray, CT, and fluoroscopy based procedures that use ionising radiation.
Ultrasound use no radiation and are generally safe in pregnancy. X-ray and CT are avoided during pregnancy where possible, but can be performed when clinically necessary the dose is carefully minimised and abdominal shielding is used. The risk of missing a serious condition often outweighs the very small radiation risk. Your radiologist will advise the safest approach for your specific situation.
